Grandmother Pearl

Updated: May 5, 2021

If I had to choose just one, I would say that my favorite illustration in my children's book, My Best Doll Friend, is this one with Grandmother Pearl.

I gave the book’s illustrator, Avia Schelts-Brown, the photo below of my mother holding my daughter Danielle when she was a baby to use as a reference for the Grandmother. Avia truly captured my mother's spirit, vitality, and her joy of her grandchildren.

My mother, Mrs. Willie Pearl Johnson, died in 2017 at the age of 83. She was a retired elementary school teacher. She and my father were married 59 years. She was my cheerleader and my friend. She loved her family and friends.

My mother enjoyed reading, decorating and was a master gardener. And she LOVED her grandchildren. My daughter Danielle was her youngest grandchild.

Her wonderful legacy reaches to future generations. I am so incredibly blessed to be her daughter.
